Data Deletion

Effective May 10, 2026

You can delete your Pukkala account and all associated personal data at any time. Two paths — both result in the same outcome: full removal from production within 30 days and from backups within 90.

Self-serve (iOS app)

  1. Open the Pukkala app.
  2. Go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account.
  3. Confirm. The deletion is queued immediately and your account is locked from sign-in.

By email

If you can't access the app — or you signed up via a third party (Facebook, Instagram) and want your data removed via that auth path — email [email protected] from the address on your account, with the subject line Data deletion request. We confirm receipt within 5 business days and complete the deletion within 30.

Third-party login deletion (Facebook / Instagram)

If you signed in to Pukkala through Facebook or Instagram and want to revoke that connection plus delete the data we hold about you, you can do either of the following:

  1. Use the in-app self-serve flow above. It removes your Pukkala data regardless of which auth provider you used.
  2. Email [email protected] from the email associated with your Facebook or Instagram account. Include the handle (e.g. @yourname) so we can match it to the Pukkala record. We respond within 5 business days, complete deletion within 30, and confirm by email.

You can also revoke Pukkala's access from your Facebook or Instagram account at any time via that platform's app settings — that removes our future ability to access your profile data, and we still complete the deletion of any historical data on our side per the timelines below.

What gets deleted

Account data (email, username, bio, profile photo). All event data (recorded acoustic features, classifications, scores, AI interpretations, optional notes, optional fuzzed locations, any audio you uploaded under Pukkala Pro). Food log data. Social data (follows, reactions, comments). Subscription history is removed from our records; payment provider records (RevenueCat, Apple, etc.) are subject to those providers' own retention policies.

What's retained

Anonymized aggregate statistics — never tied to your identity — are retained indefinitely so the public stats and methodology pages remain accurate. Anonymous crash logs are kept for 90 days. We also retain transactional records (subscription payment confirmations, legal correspondence) where required by tax or legal obligations, in line with French and EU law.

Timeline

Production databases: cleared within 30 days of your request. Encrypted backups: rotated out within 90 days. After day 90, no personal data remains on Pukkala-controlled infrastructure. Third-party processors (Supabase EU, NVIDIA US, Mapbox, RevenueCat) are notified through their respective deletion APIs at the same time.

Confirmation

When deletion completes, we send a confirmation to the email on file. If you no longer have access to that email, contact us at [email protected] from any address with sufficient identifying information and we'll work it out.
